Jack is a South London gangster working for an organised crime firm. He has been working for the firm for over twenty years and had earned the respect of his peers for being a loyal and trustworthy foot soldier. Jack had been married for many years and had four children. The marriage came to an end because of Jack’s commitment to the ‘Firm’
After his divorce he met and fell in love with Hannah who was half his age. Hannah was herself involved in crime as a professional fraudster and shop lifter, stealing top of the range goods to order. Jack met Hannah when he was introduced to her by a friend and he bought a load of ‘Gucci’ goods from her.
Their relationship blossomed and within a short time they moved in with each other and Hannah became pregnant. All went well for the first few months until Hannah was diagnosed with a tumour on the brain. Doctors advised her they needed to operate as soon as possible. Delaying it could result in further damage to the main arteries in her brain, which could result in her death. She also faced another dilemma and was warned that if she went ahead with the operation there could be a strong possibility that she may lose the baby
Hannah was desperate to have Jacks baby and refused point blank to have the operation saying she would take her chances and give birth first then have the operation. Having made that decision she was advised to rest as much as possible because any stressful situation could result in a haemorrhage. Jack decided that he needed to look after her until she was strong enough to cope. Hannah survived the birth of their son Jack junior and had the op to remove the tumour. But there had been significant damage done to the major arteries which could burst at anytime.
Jack realised that Hannah needed help with bringing their son Junior up, which meant he was unable to work for the crime family. Jack was worried he might lose Hannah and made a decision to quit his role with the firm. He decided to ask his boss Fred who was the top man of the crime firm if he could retire to take care of Hannah and their new born son. Fred told Jack that no one ever retires from the firm and refused his request on the grounds that Jack knew too much about the firms racketeering. Jack gambled with his life by insisting that he needed to be with Hannah. Jack fearlessly asked Fred to reconsider on the grounds that he had been a loyal and trusted member of the firm. Fred told Jack that he would put his request to the rest of the family and get back to him with an answer.
Jack knew that if his request was rejected by the rest of the firm and he still insisted on leaving then it would most certainly end with a bullet to the head. Once a decision was made, Jack was called to the firms’ office where he was met by Fred and his second in command Joey who was Fred’s son-in-law. Jack was told his request for retirement had been refused. But because of his loyalty over the years to the firm he was offered an alternative which would satisfy the firm and giving Jack more time with Hannah. Jack was asked to become a hitman for the firm which meant he would only work when a contract came in. He was told to consider it as part time work. Jack knew that if he refused this alternative part time work he would be whacked (Killed). Reluctantly Jack had no choice but to accept the offer.
Jack kept the details of his new job a secret from Hannah, telling her that Fred had allowed him more time to be with her and Junior. For a while all went well for Jack, he was allowed to work alone and carried out the contracts as instructed giving him lots of time to be with his beloved Hannah and son Junior. However things changed for Jack when he was given a contract to perform a torture kill on a known paedophile who had escaped justice by way of a legal technicality. Jack was instructed to kidnap and slowly torture the paedophile for 48 hours. The reasons given were that this sex offender had tortured and sexually abused his victim a young lad for the same amount of time before murdering him. Even though he was caught and stood trail he walked free which outraged the victims’ family. Jack proceeded with the contract and kidnapped and took the paedophile to a secluded location and began torturing him as instructed. Jack soon realised that he was not cut out for this type of killing and was physically sick whilst doing it. After a day of torturing, Jack had a call from his boss telling him that the victims’ family wanted to finish him off themselves. So Jack was told to leave and return the next day to dispose of the body by cutting him up into chunks and take the remains to his boss’s pig farm out in the country to be fed to the pigs. After disposing of the body Jack had been mentally affected by what he had been ordered to do.
This was the last straw for Jack and he was now wanting out of the firm. He met his local priest in a bar who knew Jack was a member of the firm. Jack had been previously making arrangements for his son junior baptism. Jack was asked to come to the vestry the next day to discuss and finalise the arrangements. Once there Jack was asked if he wanted confession, Jack had been so badly affected he agreed because he was now beginning to develop a conscience. Jack told the priest everything including the torturing of the sex offender. After confession the priest told Jack that he could sense that he wanted out of this type of work. Jack explained that it would not be easy to leave the firm and had to come up with a plan so as to be able to walk away. Jack could not tell the priest that he was already devising a plan to be able get out. However the priest knew some of the members of the firm who had gone to him for confession and knew that Jack had a dilemma if he was to get out and away from ... Find out how if Jack's plan works or is Fred and the firm too powerful for Jack...by reading this remarkable novel to be published in December.
